Occupational Therapy

These activities can include bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, driving and how you interact with your surroundings. Our OTs will focus on helping you improve high-level functional skills to allow you to perform tasks at your optimal level of independence.

Occupational Therapy is offered primarily as an inpatient service currently.

Physical Therapy

Our PTs help patients to improve function, reduce pain, increase strength, improve mobility and balance and return patients to their optimal level of performance. They assist patients in their recovery after having undergone a surgical procedure, after having experienced a fall, following an injury that occurred at work or at play, and assist patients experiencing persistent pain conditions, just to name a few. Thanks to Direct Access laws, individuals in Washington can seek physical therapy services directly from a licensed physical therapist (PT) without needing a referral or prescription from a physician. This means patients can initiate care on their own terms, which often leads to quicker access to treatment, reduced healthcare costs, and improved recovery outcomes.

Washington is among 26 states that offer unrestricted or nearly unrestricted direct access to physical therapy. Under RCW 18.74.012, licensed PTs in Washington are permitted to evaluate and treat patients without a physician’s referral. However, there are a few important provisions:

  • Scope of Practice: If a patient presents symptoms or conditions that fall outside the PT’s scope of practice, the therapist is required to refer the patient to an appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Orthotic Devices: Physical therapists may only provide treatment involving orthotic devices for foot or ankle conditions when there is a referral or consultation from an authorized healthcare provider.

It’s also important to note that while state law permits direct access, insurance providers may impose their own restrictions on reimbursement for physical therapy services. This means that even though you can legally see a PT without a referral, your insurance plan might still require one for coverage.
